At
this time I was with the fire brigade troop of the
Hitler's youth (HJ). In Michendorf, which was a
central directing center, was the flak floodlight. We
were in Berlin's Outer floodlight
belt. The floodlights stood in the Bergstrasse, the
Lienewitzsee, in Tremsdorf, and
in Langerwisch... Our observation point was in the mill up at the Wolkenberg at the time (1942 till April, 1945), currently the Norberthaus. At approx. 01:00 hrs that night, we heard engine sounds. The floodlights probed the sky, and after a short time, caught a four-engined bomber in a cone. The aeroplane, I believe, came from westerly direction. We saw that the bomber was being pursued by a night-fighter. The night-fighter opened the attack and the bomber was hit. Some seconds later, a fire broke out in the fuselage and quickly started to spread. The bomber became diffucult to control and started to spiral down until it reached about 3000 feet when it exploded violently. It was the largest explosion I have ever seen. Shortly after we drove with the fire brigade in the direction of West Michendorf to keep a lookout for the resulting fires. We were soon able to abandon our search as there were no fires to be seen. The next morning Mr Häusinger (who lived in a stone house at Lienewitzes) came to see us. He was in an excited state and explained that the previous night, an aeroplane had crashed in the Lienewitzsee and had destroyed the roof and some walls of his house. We drove off immediately and realised why there had been no fires. On our trip to the house, we arrested an Allied airman, who was wandering around and eventually delivered him to the floodlight head office. I believe he was Canadian. We then discovered wreckage from the bomber scattered around the area of the lake and the Caputher Gardens. A wing, complete with two engines lay in the lake. During the summer months, when the water level dropped, the wing could easily be viewed. Some people swam out to it and climbed upon it. I believe that there may have been some photographs taken. |
Zu dieser
Zeit war ich bei der Hitlerjugend Feuerwehr. In
Michendorf war eine zentrale Leitstelle der
Flakscheinwerfer. Wir befanden uns im äusseren
Scheinwerfergürtel um Berlin. Hans Kresten, ein
Österreicher war der Spiess der Anlage. Die Scheinwerfer
standen in der Bergstrasse, am Lienewitzsee, in
Tremsdorf, in Langerwisch... |
